As I stood in the employee’s bathroom of a coffee shop/vintage store zipping myself into a 1980’s Victor Costa ballgown, I wondered… will I ever have the basics?
It was a devastating find. I didn’t need this piece in my closet. I live in LA. But how could I resist? They really don’t make them like they used to.

Two days later, my girlfriend Alicia tagged me in a Rat and Boa dress I've had my eye on for years. Now, this is a bit more practical than classical fall/winter formal attire, but is it a throw and go? Eh, not quite. Well, sort of.
It's painful because this week's post was supposed to be about easy, breezy throw-on ideas. I envy Substack's like The Jones Report, ‘What Makes a Great Basic’ and ‘What to Wear on a Long-Haul Flight?’
Or the Uniform, article on ‘A Navy Refresh: Building Your Uniform with New Ways to Wear Navy Blue’.
I don’t know how these women have it so dialed in. I tried, really hard.
And these were my resulting screen grabs;

I’m just looking for a few options to grab coffee, folks. It may be a pipe dream at this point. I'll give it another shot next week.
In the meantime, enjoy a few more eccentric finds that made it onto my phone...
Pia Baroncini took me down a fun doorknob and vintage tack rabbit hole…
Love and will be stealing this idea…

See you next week!

Damn!!!! You did it again. So many of those dresses/gowns I love and I know you could wear them practically anywhere…even to get a local coffee. It’s all about owning it when you have it on!!!! So love you!! 😘
I literally want to buy everything you've linked to. This is gonna be dangerous...and I'm INTO it!
